Life can change so suddenly. A week ago, my life looked so different than it does now, and that’s partly good, and partly not-so-much. My friend came up with the perfect re-worked saying though: “[When] life hands you lemons, write a short story about lemonade!” (I said only if it was about grape vodka lemonade, but I digress…) And she’s right: I’m ready to take the sudden opportunity of extra time and plow through my novel. It’s a good novel with promise, if I can just stay on it and FINISH IT!
So I just came home from an event early (it was too hot and I was in dire need of non-party-sized food), made my salad (with yesterday’s leftover German potato salad mixed in — yum!), and opened my laptop to the last piece of my writing.
And just stared.
Sometimes when I’ve been away from my writing for awhile — well when anyone is really, you can lose the thread of your story. So now it’s figuring out how to dig back in without starting over.
And this where your writing friends can help: for the next hour, I’m committing to a Twitter friend to work on my novel — tonight I’m working on plot while she works on her thing. Good to have that motivation and support!
So if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to shake the dust off my plot and get ready to start writing again! Cheers!
